The Technology of Healthsat
Healthsat uses interactive media - satellite and Internet direct-to-home digital TV,
computer displays and mobile terminals for distribution of health and wellness
programmes, as well as personalised services, to European citizens.
Healthsat intends to develop products that will be innovative in three years time :
an open, integrated satellite + Web + WAP/UMTS platform (the SWW platform), fully
compliant to all recently published standards (MPEG-4, MPEG-7, DVB-RCS), allowing
simultaneous access to both interactive streamed video, and any-where, any-time
access to programmes and services.
new techniques for producing programmes matching the requirements of broadcasting
(digital television), multicasting (satellite) and narrowcasting (Web).
Health content is highly appropriate for testing the SWW platform because of the wide
range of criteria that are demanded when tackling with this field: quality, credibility,
security, confidentiality, plus multi-cultural and multi-lingual requirements.
